Back home to my own bed

Thanks to everyone for your prayers! It is great to be home and feeling quite well!!
After getting up every 2 to 3 hours to use the bathroom (with IV pole in tow), due to lots of I.V. fluids, it was good to sleep for several hours. It is a bit like when we had babies – neither can be ignored for long without ending up with a wet bed – haha
The last day was the most difficult as the bed started to get hard, fatigue setting in. The Yoon’s were so helpful and the staff supportive, but it still isn’t home.
I feel quite well as Trish and I again walked a couple miles this a.m. I can see fatigue setting in at times – like when the trash needs to go out, or ……. Actually, isn’t it interested how we don’t mind doing work after we have been unable?

Some very promising news! (Insert Praise to God here with your favorite phrase) For my marrow graft they try to get marrow from a sibling first. Normally the match odds are 1 in 4 (1:4) that a sibling will match. The director told us that after initial tests both Karl and Joan are 99%likely matches. That is 2 in 2 (2:2)!!
I told my oncologist Dr. Smith it was a God Thing. She looked at me and agreed but I perceived it as an intellectual acknowledgment vs. a spiritual agreement. That will be God’s work and just think – I get to help!

You won’t see me in large gatherings as I limit my exposure during cold and flu season to those who could be ill and not know it so I will try to stay in touch this way. Or you can call, e mail etc.

Thanks to all who have offered meals or should – you can find my favorites at Neal’sfavoritefoods.com — just kidding!
I was told my hair will be lost in 10-14 days so is it Mr. Clean or Yul Brenner? Maybe Mr. Staypuff Marshmallow? Mr. Universe?

I find this is not only a physical challenge, but also mental. Growth will happen and I pray it is what God wants to shape in me.
We welcome comments to our blog. Share encouragement to those in your life who need a word.
Blessings,
Neal

  1. Having recently found out about your cancer “journeys”, I can say with a certainty that I do know what this it like. I faced Breast Cancer as the same time as my then 6 month old son, Ryan. We went through chemo at the same time. I will continue to pray for you and your family during this battle. I pray God will lay his healing hands upon you and give you strength. Many blessings….-Linda Dolezan

    Neal and Trish,
It was sure great having dinner with you two and getting to know you guys. We continue to pray for Neal and are happy to hear that side effects are not an issue at this point. Hoping for a status quo treatment program with no surprises in store. Just be a bore Neal and don’t offer the docs anything “out of the ordinary” to think about!
    Fondly,
    Will and Mar
