Visiting Old Friends

Martha and I
Two weekends ago I visited some old friends, Martha and Lawrence Temfwe, from Zambia who are in Connecticut for a sabbatical.  A few years ago some people near Yale University had a vision of creating a place for missionaries to rest while here in the United States.  Temfwe’s came just before Neal passed and will go home in June.  Lawrence was one of the speakers at Neal’s funeral.
It was a long journey:  drove from Michigan to parking garage near O’Hare, took shuttle to the airport, flew from Chicago to Laguardia in New York, took bus to Grand Central Station and two hour train to New Haven, CT.  It was a very restful, encouraging visit inspite of the traveling.
It’s odd to spend time with friends that were friends to Neal and I as a couple.  Temfwe’s and a few other couples have made me feel just as a part of them as before.  The depth of conversation is still there, we were just missing Neal’s sense of humor and insightful comments.
No matter what the situation is, we can’t go back.  We can’t stay where we are.  We must move forward.  God is always moving forward with His plans for us so it makes sense that we should move forward also.  The Christian life is not static.  It is a walk with God that moves you forward into a larger life with God.
So, I press forward with the help of Christ (Phil. 3:12-14), whatever that may be.  Are you moving forward or are you stuck in disappointment, broken dreams, anger, bitterness or stubbornness?
On the jounrey,
Trish
