How did you find out about this cancer?

Many have asked how I found out I had cancer. Well….

I have had fibrous cysts in my breats for years and have faithfully gone for my mamograms followed by ultrasound. They have drained the cysts and sent the liquid out for testing which has come back as benign. I had my yearly physical in March and mamogram. The mamogram showed cysts so I was sent to the surgeon again for an ultrasound. I asked the surgeon since I had been to see him 4 times in less than two years if I could have them removed instead of drained.

I also asked him about breast MRI’s that I had been reading about. He agreed to send me for one since we would be doing surgery to remove the cysts. “Let’s make sure nothing else is going on.” I had the MRI done locally but we don’t have a doctor in SW MI who reads them. They sent the MRI to a breast MRI center in Flint, MI to be read. The report came back that I had 2 suspicious areas on my left breast.

They recommended that I have a MRI guided biopsy. Of course we don’t have the doctor to do that here so I went to the center in Flint to have it done. When the surgeon called me on May 22 and said he wanted to see me in the office that day at 5:30 I knew something was up. The results came back that I had invasive lobular cancer and they recommended a mastectomy. Not what I was anticipating.

This cancer is only detected by MRI’s. So ladies, if you have dense breasts or a history of breast cancer I would STRONGLY suggest that you ask for a breast MRI. I am so thankful that my doctor agreed to send me for one otherwise by the time I found out about the cancer it would have been too late. God is good.

More to come about how God brought all this together.
Thanks for your prayers,
Trish
