Do you ever wonder that in a difficult situation? Some days I wonder how I will just get through this day. Sometimes the pain seems so unbearable. I have been going to a support group at one of the local churches on Wednesday nights. It’s a national program called “GriefShare: Your Journey from Mourning to Joy.” We have a DVD every week and discuss questions. There are people in the group that have experienced a loss of a loved one: a spouse, a child, a parent. We have workbooks that have daily exercises. Today, in my workbook, I was reminded God is the one who sustains me through this grief journey.
*The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. Psalm 146:9
*The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He awakens me morning by morning, weakens my ear to listen like one being taught. Isaiah 50:4
*You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me. Psalm 18:35
Those are some of God’s promises. His Word is true so I can be assured that God will sustain me. Here are some definitions of sustain from Merriam-Webster:
*to give support or relief to *to buoy up
*to supply with sustenance; nourish *to bear up under
*to keep up; prolong *to suffer; undergo
*to support the weight of
*to carry or withstand ( a weight or pressure)
We don’t have to bear our pain alone. God willingly supports the weight of it, He bears it, and carries it. All we have to do is cry out to Him. He is waiting for us to turn to Him so he can sustain us.
Thank you Lord for watching over me and that I don’t have to bear this pain alone. You will assume it for me and bring me through.
On the journey,
Trish
