Flexibility!

A patient at Neal’s office a couple weeks ago was scheduling a dental appointment. She whipped out her legal pad with all her and her husband’s doctors information and appointments. I chuckled then but I understand now why she needed that!

Next week is full of appointments. Monday AM the oncologist; Monday PM MRI; Tuesday AM is out patient surgery to remove some of my skin where the tumor was close to the outer skin and put expanders in my once breast area; Thursday a PET scan; and then the next Monday I see a doctor at Nothwestern in Chicago for a 2nd opinion. I am hoping then to begin my treatment.

God is teaching me that he is control and not me! He is Soveriegn and his way is best.

  1. Oh Trish…what a whirlwind schedule of appts. We all feel so stunned and helpless at the office! I know you are surrounded by friends and family but if there is absolutely anything we can do for you consider it done. Meals, laundary, grocery shopping you name it we are all willing to be where ever you may need us…Thank you for being so open and honest on this blog it really helps us find direction in our prayer for you…I hope you can rest easy through this time and find peace in Gods grace and mercy. We are lifting you up and trusting that God is working through the doctors who are caring for you.

  2. Hey Trish! You sure are in my prayers! On your own strength, that schedule would be daunting. We are thankful you are surrounded by supportive friends and more importantly that God will lift you up and see you through this! Let us know specifics of how we can minister to you!

    I will be happy to keep you in a supply of granola as long as it meets with your doctor’s directions. For anyone interested, here is the recipe:

    AUNT BARBIE’S CHRISTMAS GRANOLA
    Combine in large bowl:
    8 cups oatmeal (old-fashioned)
    2 cups puffed wheat
    1 cup pecans, broken in halves
    1 cup almonds, chopped coarsely
    1/2 cup sunflower seeds
    (I add also about 1/2 c. pumpkin seeds (green))

    Combine in pan, simmer until dissolved:
    2/3 cup oil (to make it extra healthy, I used cold processed safflower oil)
    1 1/3 cup real maple syrup
    2 TB. vanilla
    2 teas. salt
    Pour over cereals in bowl, mixing well.
    Spread on cookie sheets and bake for 20 minutes in a preheated 350′ oven, rotating sheets an stirring every 5-7 minutes. (I bake it quite a bit longer, until I see it turning light brownish and crispy).

    Cool, Add:
    1 cup dried cranberries
    1cup raisins
    1 cup dried cherries
    When completely cool, place in airtight container(s). Recipe is easily doubled or tripled.
