Family weekend remembering

We had  very full weekend remembering Neal and just being together.  Friday night after the little ones went to bed we sat around talking about Neal’s last days.  That was our most tearful time but it seems that once we had done that the weekend was light-hearted, fun and full of laughter telling stories and memories.

Saturday an old friend and her kids stopped by in  the morning.  During naps we hung around the house and played games. At dinner we celebrated September birthdays.

September birthdays:  Collin, Ty, Eli and me

After naps we went down to the beach.

Sunday morning we went downtown St. Joseph to look at the trains and planes they have on display.

The kids enjoyed the splash pad near Silver Beach.

Followed by a pizza picnic.

That evening we enjoyed a concert down at our beach in Bridgman.

One of my favorite times of the weekend was Sunday night.  We played Pictionary in the screened-in-porch on the sliding door with dry erase markers.  Everyone put in pieces of paper with words pertaining to Neal of things he said, did, owned, etc.  We laughed and told stories.  I’m sure Neal was enjoying the joy and laughter.

It was a joyful weekend remembering a great man, husband, father and granddad.
Ï will turn their mourning into gladness, I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.”Jeremiah 31:13
On the journey,
