When I was out for a walk this morning I ran into one of my neighbors. She is a school teacher so typically she would be at school when I was walking but of course she is enjoying summer break. She started telling me this story about seeing in the news last week a child over in the suburbs of Chicago that was terribly abused. It was very upsetting to her. At church this past Sunday she was praying and a vision came to her that Neal was in a rocking chair rocking this child in heaven. My friend has lost both of her parents and other relatives but it was Neal that was rocking the child. I was very moved and thankful she shared this with me.
I believe in heaven not only will we have relationship with God but other people. God created us to need each other. Jesus affirmed that the greatest command was to love God, but that the second was to love our neighbor (Matthew 22: 37-39). I think even in heaven. That little child is healthy and whole in heaven, not abused but loved. Neal loved children, loved being a dad, so why not love on this little child? An interesting and comforting thought.
On the journey,
Trish
