Book by its cover?

So great to be home! I am gradually getting back to strength here. No day is the same as my need for sleep fluctuates as well as my sleep patterns. Great excuse to take a nap anytime. Feel free to use it yourself. I have even written a talk at 2 a.m. as my eyes popped open for a couple of hours.

As I go through treatment, I hope to always share my faith and hope with those I come in contact. I have been reading Heaven by Randy Alcorn. It gives great insights into what the Bible speaks to about heaven. You should read it. While waiting for my appointment and during, both a nurse and the director of the transplant program engaged me in conversation about the book. They asked interesting questions and were open that I believed we all will go to heaven or hell when they die. I didn’t go into great theology but noticed openness and inquiry. I think I will carry the book around even when I finish it as it does provoke discussion. I might even put the book cover on other books as I read them. 🙂
It is also unique as I have specific cravings – like being pregnant. It is mostly for protein and carbs. Not for ice cream or sugar snacks. Chips and dip come up frequently. Plus my cholesterol is down within normal limits so I don’t have concerns. I can use the cancer card to eat anything I want!

My brother is a match and a go for the transplant. They are optimistic with comments there can be some side effects/risks but I am young (hey, I like that) and healthy.

We are thankful for God’s protection for as we came home we avoided a sideswipe of a semi on the entrance ramp of the skyway. In a loaner car as well. All is well when it could have been bad.

Keep your cards and letters coming in! Feel free to comment.

  1. You both are an inspiration to us as christians, though we are 80 yrs.old. Even in old age, Pearl and I would like to bear fruit for The Master. You are in our thoughts and prayers. In Christian Love, Jim and Pearl.

  2. Glad to hear you are home again. Being able to eat everything is wonderful. It is so interesting how tastes and cravings actually change. We will compare notes on that and other aspects of this journey. Think and pray for you and Trish often. Linda and Don

  3. Hey fellow bloggers! I also love when people comments on mine. I am letting you know that I know of MANY people who check in often to hear your updates, so keep them coming! Praying for you……

  4. Hi Neal & Trish,
Interestingly, I am sure that Ty has mentioned Jim Harrell to you. Well, Randy Alcorn was a friend of Jim’s. He was scheduled to be at Jim’s funeral service but didn’t make it at the last minute. However, a small booklet with appropriate excerpts from “Heaven” were provided at Jim’s funeral service. I was informed by Ty that he had been reading Heaven to Jim prior to his passing. I took a few copies of the booklet to go and shared it accordingly has you have been doing Neal. There is some powerful stuff in that book!
Please know that we continue our prayers for you two as you enter your next endeavor. I have been reminded today just how powerful prayer can be. My dear friend, Gail, had a malignant tumor removed from her esophagus yesterday at UC in a 8.5 hr. surgery. The tumor was removed with success as it had not attached itself to any other organ in its path. Gail had been blogging on UC’s Caring Bridge website. I truly believe that her strength and faith was instilled thru the words of her friends, family and church family thru this site. What a strong instrument prayer can truly be! Take care guys!
