Neal was feeling much better this afternoon. Last night he was pretty miserable and moaning from pain in his stomach. He was put on morphine and was able to sleep better. The skin biopsy came back showing graft vs. host disease but his other results were not back. The doctor was pretty confident that they would also show GVH so he started him on the lowest dose of steroids this afternoon until the final results come back. So basically Karl’s cells are not only attacking any remaining cancer cells but also Neal’s stomach and intestines. The cells do not recognize them as Karl’s so they attack them as foreign. The steroids should destroy the cells. We will have to wait and see. I know it sounds crazy since we wanted the cells to attack but now they are attacking too much.
I came home last this afternoon after I made sure Neal was stable. He ate a little lunch and was able to keep most of it in. The steroids were starting to make him feel better as well. Maybe he will gain some of the 10 pounds he lost back. This weekend hopefully Neal will be back home.
